What Can You Not Do After A Keratin Treatment?
If you’ve just had a keratin hair treatment your hair is going to need special attention so that the benefits stand the test of time. Simply blow drying your hair using aluminium flat irons and using dry shampoo isn’t enough to prolong the advantages of our Brazilian Keratin Treatment.
We offer an advanced Brazilian Keratin Treatment that is heat-activated and refrains from keeping chemicals in your hair for 3 days. So, many of the traditional Dos and Don’ts associated with what to do afterwards simply aren’t relevant. That’s why we recommend seeing BKT for a keratin treatment, (naturally), because it means you don’t have to worry too much about what you have to do afterwards.
However, if you’ve had a traditional Brazilian keratin straightening treatment that does leave chemicals like formaldehyde or glyoxylic acids in your hair for 3 days then we have got something for you.
A Do Not list - to make sure you get the best out of your hair care.
1. Do not use cheap shampoos
Keratin treated hair needs a gentle sulphate free shampoo with micro keratin that will progressively enhance your hair making it look fresh and lush. Clarifying shampoos are also a no-no as they can lead to dry hair - while they help your hair absorb keratin faster, you should only use them before your treatment and not after.
Try BKT Deep Hydration Shampoo, a gentle cleansing shampoo that deeply hydrates, strengthens and also improves your hair health. Apply a small amount into your wet hair and scalp. Massage to release the lather then rinse thoroughly.
2. Do not play with your hair too much
You run the risk of kinking your hair strands if you manipulate them too much. So keep your hair down flat and straight and leave it alone.
3. Do not style your hair too often
Wearing headbands, sunglasses, hair clips, and tucking your hair behind the ears is not on unless you want to mark and crease your hair semi-permanently.
4. Do not go too hard at the gym
Even if you get by using dry shampoos, excess sweating on the scalp will interfere with your keratin treatment setting in. So maybe give the gym a rest for a couple of weeks.
5. Do not colour your hair
You should be looking at colouring your hair before your keratin treatment. This is because the keratin actually seals the colour in, providing a protective coating preventing it from fading.
6. Do not swim
Avoid contact with chlorine and sodium chloride (salt) at all costs. Even one dip will make your hair unfold in a giant mess.
7. Do not expose your hair to high heat
Overheating your hair strands can lead to the keratin coating melting off of your hair. So stick to the recommended 185℃ if you need hair straightening.
That’s it! Follow this guide if you want to get the most out of your hair after keratin treatment.
We hope that these tips help you keep your beautiful locks gleaming!
